TV is a slick, well designed, easy to set up, and very solid solution. Plus, with VNC, if you want to use it on multiple platforms and device types, you'll be cobbling together a system of different applications from different developers which may or may not work well together or be robust. You can use VNC to do the same as TV, but it is not as reliable, especially on weak wifi connections or other low bandwidth situations. RDP has limited support, and none on the Mac. lt works on Mac and Windows, and on mobile devices. TV is very easy to use, very reliable, and free for personal use. Last night both rigs were collecting data when Teamviewer hit me and I didn't want to try configuring anything new. It worked fine so I never bothered pursuing any other option. I decided to try Teamviewer before trying tightvnc, etc. Since I connect to Gemini 2 via ethernet my guess is there is a problem between the two. My sad story is that I can't use RDP as it randomly locks the remote computer out and messes up my guiding when that happens. I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely curious what features or use cases people have for preferring products like TeamViewer or PCAnywhere or RemotePC.

(And if you have a version of Windows that doesn't have RDP the cost to upgrade to add it does not have to be expensive.) If you have a version of Windows that includes Remote Desktop Service, it is technically superior to most other options and also free and has clients for a wide variety of platforms. There are several VNC-based solutions that are open or entirely free and support a wide variety of operating systems and platforms.
I'm curious why so many people seek or prefer to use commercial products like TV when there are superior or free remote desktop options for personal use.
